Every bin round in Stafford borough shifts one day later from Monday 31 August, and Friday rounds land on Saturday 5 September. Normal days return 7 September.

Every household bin collection in Stafford borough moves a day later next week.

The summer bank holiday falls on Monday 31 August. Stafford Borough Council said on 24 August that green, blue and brown bins and food waste caddies would all be collected on revised dates between then and Saturday 5 September.

The release did not print the new dates. It asked residents to look up their own address instead. So we did that for every round the council operates, using its own collection day lookup. The answer is the same across the borough. Every collection moves forward exactly one day, and nothing is skipped.

The dates

  • Monday rounds are collected on Tuesday 1 September
  • Tuesday rounds on Wednesday 2 September
  • Wednesday rounds on Thursday 3 September
  • Thursday rounds on Friday 4 September
  • Friday rounds on Saturday 5 September

Normal days return the following week. A Monday round is back on Monday 7 September, a Tuesday round on Tuesday 8 September.

Which bin goes out

The council runs an alternate weekly service. The green bin one week; the blue bin, blue bag and brown bin the next. Food waste is collected every week, on whichever day your bins are due. That is set out on the council’s Know Your Bins page.

It publishes ten round calendars, two for each weekday from Monday to Friday. The two rounds that share a weekday are on opposite weeks. So Monday households do not all put out the same bin on 1 September.

The lookup shows both. Properties on Reason Road in Mosspit are due the blue bin on Tuesday 1 September. Properties on Gorse Lane at Woodseaves are due the green bin the same day. Check your own address rather than your neighbour’s street.

The caddy and the brown bin move too

The weekly food waste collection started in April 2026. The grey caddy is emptied on the same day as your bin, but at a different time and by a different vehicle. Its day shifts with everything else.

The brown garden bin is collected fortnightly on the same day as the blue bin, so it moves as well. The 2026 permit costs £43.50 per bin and expires on 31 December, with no pro rata refunds.

Getting it collected

  • Bins, blue bag and food caddy must be ready by 7am on the day.
  • Put them at the boundary of your property, clearly visible to the crew.
  • Lids fully closed. The blue bag and caddy go beside the bins, not inside or on top.
  • Leave recycling loose in the blue bin. No carrier bags, no bin liners.

If a container is rejected, the crew leaves an information hanger explaining why. The council’s waste FAQ is blunt about what happens next: it will not come back for it. The bin is emptied on the next scheduled collection day, once the wrong items have been taken out. Genuine missed collections go to 01785 619402 or the council’s online report form.

The tips, if you would rather not wait

Stone Recycling Centre on Beacon Road is the trap here. Its published hours show Monday and Tuesday as closed, so it is shut on the bank holiday itself and shut again the day after. It opens Wednesday to Friday 9am to 6pm, and 9am to 5pm at weekends, until 24 October.

Stafford Recycling Centre on St Albans Road is open every day: 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, on the same summer timetable. Staffordshire County Council lists no bank holiday closure for it.

Three restrictions apply across the whole county network. The county’s recycling centre notices page, last updated on 26 August, says that:

  • wood cannot currently be accepted, because of a nationwide issue
  • fridges and freezers should only be brought in if essential, because storage is short
  • trade waste is not being taken at any recycling centre

Cars need no permit and can visit as often as you like. A van, pick-up or trailer over 1.5 metres needs a permit, and that allows 12 visits a year.

What it means for you

If your bin day is Monday, do not put anything out on 31 August. It will sit there all day. Put it out by 7am on Tuesday 1 September instead.

If your bin day is Friday, the awkward one is 4 September. Your collection is the Saturday, 5 September, which is easy to forget if you are away for the weekend.

Everyone else adds a day and carries on. Nothing is cancelled and no collection is missed, so there is no need to squeeze a fortnight of rubbish into one bin. If you have more than fits, Stafford’s tip is open through the whole weekend and the bank holiday Monday. Stone’s is not.
